Tech-Nica, are a container construction company in Nicaragua.  They have posted a You Tube video of how to move a 45 ft high cube shipping container when you don't really have the right equipment.  They also have some nice pictures and a video walkthrough of their container design on their website.

This isn't the first ISBU

This isn't the first ISBU house to be built in Nicaragua. They could be found there in the 80's, when a lot of us were there playing peek-a-boo in Banana Republics.

In remote locations such as these, we've used tractor buckets, backhoes, and even Lulls, with straps thru shackles at the corner "points" to haul them around. It just takes a steady crew, and some guts.

And Nicaragua is trying to become the "Riviera of Central America." These "fast-built" ISBU homes may just make some of that aspiration possible.

Sorry about previous

Sorry about previous "anonymous" comment about muscling ISBUs around with sheer manpower... and a few tractors... ... To continue...

Back in the heyday of United Foods, the banana boats plowed those waters as well as many container ships carrying produce to the US. A LOT of those containers "went astray." I've seen entire villages built of ISBUs, in a Mad Max-esque hodge-podge that would make you think that Hollywood was there shooting a Sci Fi Movie...

Lot's of Americans are already heading down there, as the economy here pounds us into sand. In fact, on my blog, Renaissanceronin, we're discussing the potential of setting up a factory to actually build "vacation homes" out of "ISBUs for export" to points south...

Glad you showed this. It really demonstrates what determined folks can do, if they put their minds to it!

Good on ya!

Ronin
